*Being
spontaneous at times
is a must!*
Our city
trip to Dusseldorf was a spontaneous one. We loved to go away for a weekend in
May, without travelling too far. Ideal destination according to us was
Düsseldorf - Germany. We were staying at Melia Dusseldorf. This superior 4-star
hotel is situated next to the Hofgarten Park and features a stylish bar, classy
restaurant, a lovely luxurious breakfast with a very large choice of fresh and
healthy food and a free spa. The old town and the Königsallee shopping street
are within a 15 minute walk. From our room we had a beautiful view over the
Hofgarten. The Hofgarten is the oldest park in the city and the green heart of
Dusseldorf. It is the ideal place for a walk while you admire the historical
monuments and modern sculptures.
After a short walk through the Hofgarten we quickly arrived at the shopping district. The Königsallee, better known as "Kö", is considered one of the most beautiful boulevards in the world. During a shop till you drop spree you absolutely may not skip Flingerstraße. This is one of the busiest shopping streets in Germany. Besides shops you will find many sights around this street.
Throughout the city we heard beautiful jazz melodies! It soon became clear that this was something special and that we didn’t just hear street musicians. During the time we were in Düsseldorf the Jazz Rally took place. This is the largest jazz festival in Germany. Throughout the city you can enjoy jazz music… We certainly enjoyed the lovely music! The performances range from major pop artists to local talent. This is a jazz festival of the highest level. Book your sleeping place in time, because the festival is extremely popular.
We also visited the Rhine Tower, which is a true symbol of Düsseldorf. A visit to this tower cannot be missing when you pay a visit to this city. The elevator takes you within just seconds to the observation deck of the tower that is 168 meters. You have a magnificent view of the city here. Through the angled windows you can look straight down, so hopefully you have no fear of heights. This really is a dizzying experience! Visit this tower at the beginning of your city trip. That way, you immediately have a clear view of the structure of the city. At the top of the tower, you'll find the Top 180 Restaurant where you can dine while enjoying the breath-taking views. During the culinary experiences the platform rotates 360 ° C. This happens very slowly, so you don’t notice anything, just the ever-changing view is marvellous. The restaurant offers a very nice, typical German cuisine, friendly service and beautiful panoramic views of Düsseldorf ... These are the ingredients that make a visit to the Rhine Tower unique!
The delicious lunch was followed by a pleasant walk on the Rheinuferpromenade. The promenade is 1928 meters long and connects the Altstadt, the historic centre, with the modern Medienhafen. The sun was shining and that allowed us to enjoy a delicious cocktail, with our feet in the sand, on a terrace along the Rhine. One word = blissful! An instant summer feeling in the spring! This is the right place for a snack or drink since the Rheinuferpromenade dotted with cosy cafes and bars.
The Altstadt has a warm and inviting atmosphere. The greatest strengths of this lively city are the narrow alleys, old churches, traditional breweries and nice restaurants. The old town is also called "the longest bar in the world" as you find there more than 300 cafes and nightclubs.
